How To: Draft a Basic Pant Pattern Automated

Draft a Basic Pant Pattern Automated

You have read How to Draft a Basic Pant Pattern. It's a most useful guide, but the image is hard to read and the steps many and complex. That's why I wrote a little software program to do the hard work for you.

Just enter your measurements and click the button. Once you're satisfied (possibly the first time!), save the image and print it. For this you need any program that can print an image at real size (100%), so don't scale down, don't "fit to paper", etc. Unless you have a large format printer at your disposal, you'll have to print the pattern over multiple pages and tape the pages together befor use. For example Adobe Acrobat can do this for you (that is, the printing over multiple pages, not the glueing).

You can download the program by the link below. It doesn't need installing, you could run it from the zip-file if you like.
always check downloaded software with a recent virus checker - trust nobody

Thanks so much for this cool program. Before I can try it, I need to know what some of your measurements are referring to on the body. Can you tell me what I need to measure for these points:

Total length? - measuring from the waist to the bottom hem down the side?
Hip drop?
Knee level?

Thanks you so much!! I can't wait to try this .

I got the answers to my above questions. I plugged the numbers in and can see the pattern. The pattern will only save as a jpeg. When I try to print the pattern, I get a message that not enough storage is available to process this command. Any advice on what I may be doing wrong? I'm running XP,

Thanks again.

could you please go into more detail on the measurements. Specifically- knee level , hip drop and front crotch. Thank you in advance.

Try deleting the file you downloaded, clearing your browser's cache and download again. Also make certain you have a good archiving program, such as WinZip or WinRar to open the file. If the file is corrupted (such as being interrupted during the download), the program will tell you and then you can repeat the steps I just mentioned. I was able to download the zip file and run the program without any problems. I'm using WinRar: http://www.rarlab.com/

Hello,
Can someone share what is meant by these terms:
Total length? - measuring from the waist to the bottom hem down the side?
Hip drop?
Knee level?

Can you please explain what each of the measurements means. I'm having trouble with it because i'm not sure what is meant by hip drop or knee level or if total length is height of the person or length you want the pants. Please clarify. It's a great tool. Thank you.

Is there a MAC version of this??!! I would LOVE to be able to use this pattern making tool.

I'm so bummed. The program works great, but I cannot print the pattern. Photoshop Express has no print option and Adobe Reader will not open a jpeg file.

I tried to download the basic pant pattern but can't open it because I don't have winzip, is there another way I can open it? I really want this pattern :)
